Hello Golf Fans!
On March 27 and 28 the SaddleBrooke Ranch Women’s Golf Association (SBRWGA) hosted their 2023 President’s Cup. Excitement was in the air, as was Jim Heywood’s drone. Thank you, Jim, for our group photo. Red, white, and blue could be seen from the heavens. The excitement was quelled by increasing winds and lower-than-expected temperatures. Many golfers could be heard begging for warmer weather and less wind. Several golfers succumbed to the weather and had to withdraw on day 1. Day 2 provided welcomed warmer temperatures ending in the high 60s and wind that picked up as the round continued.
Debbie Shelton’s skill was evident with a chip-in on the first day at hole number 9 and hole number 18 on day 2. Debbie was able to put together two exemplary rounds for a net 138.
Mike, Ken, and Catherine, our own league day chair extraordinaire, were in the Sol Ballroom collecting score cards and commiserating with the groans of bad shots and the euphoria of the perfectly placed putts. Jean Cheszek and Susan Pharr were assisting behind the scenes, and Pam Horwitt organized the tournament. The wildly creative and busy social committee provided muffins on day one along with centerpieces that contributed to a good time by all.
The Ranch House staff, led by Tyler, knocked it out of the park (yes, mixed sport metaphor to celebrate the opening day of baseball)! The ladies were treated to a delicious chicken salad and a line was present for the ice cream sundae bar until everyone designed their own perfect chocolate, caramel, or strawberry sundaes. This reporter may have enjoyed extra whipped cream and peanuts.
There were some impressive one round net scores in the 60s. Bev Redfield with 66; Debbie Messner with 67; Debbie Shelton, Carol Mihal, and Kathy Dyer all shot a one day 68; and Mary Hoover brought it home with a one round 69.
Closest to the Pin winners for day 1 were Jean Cheszek on hole number 5 and Terri Movius on hole number 12. Day 2 winners were Judy Callahan on hole number 7 and Diane Taylor on hole number 14.
